Our Purpose

Imagining What's Possible

Our vision is about more than just buildings or care. It’s about possibility. Here, wellness is deeply personal, and hospitality rises to the level of art. We believe in purposeful living, where every individual’s story helps shape the culture we’re building — one rooted in creativity, nature and authentic connection. More than a senior living community, we are a place where you can continue to thrive, grow and write your next chapter.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know that choosing a community is a major decision — one that comes with many questions. To support you on this journey, we’ve compiled answers to the most common inquiries we hear.

Goodwin Living is a nonprofit organization that has been serving older adults in the Washington, D.C. area since 1967. With deep roots in the community and a reputation for excellent care, Goodwin Senior Living Campuses, Goodwin Living Health and other programs offer exceptional support for residents and families across the region.

Goodwin House Seminary Road is a senior living community opening in 2029 in Alexandria, Virginia. Designed for adults ages 55+, it’s a community that welcomes, uplifts and inspires those who want to enjoy vibrant living today. Our community features 217 contemporary apartment homes in two high-rise towers with an enriching atmosphere of wellness and security.

Also known as a CCRC or Continuing Care Retirement Community, a Life Plan Community is a type of senior living that allows you to enjoy an active, independent lifestyle now, with access to care (like Assisted Living or Nursing Care) if your needs change later. We offer both Lifecare and Fee-for-Service contract options so you can choose what’s best for you.

Our Lifecare contracts offer the most financial predictability by incorporating projected costs of care into the fee structure. You pay an entrance fee followed by monthly fees, and your monthly fees will not increase if you move to a higher level of care as your needs change. Our Fee-for-Service contracts do not include the insurance-like coverage of care costs that the Lifecare options offer. You still pay an entrance fee followed by monthly fees, which will adjust to the market rates for the higher levels of care if you need them.

Our community will sit on a scenic, seven-acre hilltop campus near the intersection of North Beauregard Street and Seminary Road, sharing space with The View Alexandria at 5000 Fairbanks Avenue in Alexandria, VA. Located near D.C. you’ll enjoy panoramic city views, just minutes from Old Town and Shirlington.

Goodwin House Seminary Road will offer 217 spacious apartment homes, including one-bedroom with den and two-bedroom with den options. Every residence will feature:

  • Open floor plans
  • Modern finishes like quartz countertops and stainless-steel appliances
  • Private balcony or patio
  • Keyless entry and in-unit washer/dryer
  • Secure under-building parking

Yes! Many of our apartment homes are designed for two people. If one partner ever needs additional support, both can remain part of the same community.

We offer a full continuum of care, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Support, Short-Term Rehabilitation and Nursing Care. All care levels will be conveniently located on campus.

Yes! Dogs, cats and birds are welcome in many apartments. Some restrictions apply ⎯ let us know if you’d like more details.

  • All utilities, cable TV, and Wi-Fi
  • Housekeeping and linen service
  • Flexible dining plans
  • Access to wellness and recreation spaces — like a fitness center, saltwater pool, sauna, sports simulators and more

Inspired by Experience

Every detail in our community has been designed with intention to create a space rooted in beauty, function and forward-thinking care. Lush landscaping and our Urban Arboretum weave nature into the everyday, while thoughtfully designed dining venues, apartments and communal spaces bring comfort, connection and creativity to daily life. We’ve partnered with leaders across design, architecture, wellness and hospitality to bring this vision to life — here are their words on what makes our community so unique.

“Our work, as interior designers, collaboratively creates spaces that serve the organization’s mission. By creating spaces that bring residents and staff together, the community provides opportunities for purpose, connection, and activities that enrich daily life.”

“As a city of 160,000 people, our demographics are extremely diverse, including by age. Amenities like this are actually critical to attracting employers, because they allow people in their 30s, 40s and 50s to keep their family and loved ones close. That makes Alexandria an even stronger place to live and work.”

Closer to home, the older adult population in Northern Virginia is growing rapidly, with the number of citizens aged 65 and older expected to increase by approximately 76% between 2010 and 2030 according to the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia.”
